This Shaker Style Up Right Desk is shown here in solid Cherry. We use pegged mortise and tenon joinery and gracefully taper the legs to give this robust piece a deceptively dainty look. The case is built using 1 inch and 3/4 inch solid Cherry and unlike lesser desks the interior uses 1/2 inch hard maple for the draw bodies with 1/4 inch thick adjustable shelves. All dove tails are hand cut and the desk is finished with a hand rubbed oil and wax, we sign and date this piece just like all our products. The side draws are supported by smooth acting full extension draw slides, enabling full access to the back of the draws. The Mahogany pegs used in the mortise and tenon joints lend a handsome contrast, as do the spline joints for the lower desk top. All knobs are hand turned in our studio and we use solid brass hinges with a smooth acting till lock.
The Shaker Up Right Desk stands 48 inches tall, 36 inches wide and 24 inches deep. It is heavy, it requires over 100 board feet of solid cherry to build. I haven’t weighed it yet, once I do the proper weight will be listed, but I would estimate this desk to weigh around 80 to 100 pounds. With exceptional Shaker styling and solid construction this is sure to be a desk of pride for many generations.
