M.J. Amsden Furniture builds furniture to order, that means your name is applied to the project from start to finish. This makes your furniture order personal to us, not just another number on an assembly line.
Upholstered Furniture
The frames on our upholstered furniture are built with one and a quarter inch thick soft maple. We use pegged mortise and tenon joinery at all structural joints. We use all natural products in the upholstering of your furniture, this includes Jute Webbing, Horse Hair, Cotton padding and Muslin. The springs are eight way hand tied coils. Cushions are a personal preference and we offer many options from down and feather, to foam with fiber wrap, the choice is yours. Of course we are custom builders, so if you have allergies, or would just prefer a synthetic fiber used in your upholstery we can easly accommodate your special request, or needs. All upholstered products are fully signed and dated.
Wooden Furniture
Our wooden furniture is built with the same attention to detail as our upholstered furniture. We use only solid wood, no fiber board, or plywood. Of course all joinery is hand cut mortise and tenon and dovetails. We prefer to use a hand rubbed oil and wax finish because of its ease of application, durability and its warm natural feel, which a plastic covering cannot match. All our wooden furniture products are fully signed and dated.
Hardwood of Your Choice
Regardless of whether you are looking for an heirloom wing chair, or dining room table, M.J. Amsden Furniture can build it in your choice of wood species, from Cherry to Rose Wood. The price for different wood species can vary considerably, so listed prices may be subject to change, depending on your choice of wood. Of course you will be notified of this before any work progresses.
Reupholstering & Weaving
M.J. Amsden Furniture also offers a full service reupholstering department. This department is also highly skilled in reweaving seats in Fiber Rush, Cane and Shaker Tape.
